But what about the gardening method that relies on the moon?
Even if you have heard of gardening by the phases of the moon, you may think it’s all based on old-wives’ tales, but . . . Maybe not.
The Gardening Method That Relies on the Moon
You may think moon gardening is, well, looney, but, hey, it was the method used by civilizations of antiquity – the Greeks and Egyptians, for sure, paid attention to cycles of the moon when planting – and there are still plenty of avid greenthumbs who swear by it as the way to success.
You can buy lunar gardening charts off the Internet. The Farmer’s Almanac lists recommended planting dates according to the moon’s cycle. (That’s where I got the data above).
And this thinking even extends into agriculture and farming practices where, for instance, chicken farmers are encouraged to time their eggs to hatch when it is a new moon because chicks born at this time will grow faster and healthier and end up producing more offspring. Well, if the moon can control the tides . . . I guess there could be something behind this.
